Soft Coral Porcelain Crab Filter-Feeding on Red Soft Coral Branch in Bali
Media added to your Request List
An extreme macro underwater photograph captures a low-angle, close-up perspective of a tiny soft coral porcelain crab (Lissoporcellana nakasonei or Aliaporcellana species) perched near the tip of a vibrant red-orange soft coral branch in Bali. The delicate, translucent crustacean extends two large, fan-like plumose maxillipeds (filter-feeding appendages) wide into the water column to trap plankton and organic detritus. Its small striped body and slender legs cling tightly to the host octocoral, which features a bright translucent red central stem lined with rows of expanded, frosty-white polyps. At the tip of the coral branch, a thin piece of algal debris drifts in the current. A dark, near-black background with soft circular bokeh isolates the glowing subject and its host. An ultra-shallow depth of field pins crisp focus on the delicate fan setae and crab carapace, while gently blurring the lower coral stalk into the background. Ideal for decapod feeding biology studies, commensal organism guides, octocoral ecosystem publications, and professional nature stock media.
