Asilidae
Asilidae, commonly known as robber flies, are a large family of powerful, predatory insects found worldwide. They are easily recognized by their elongated bodies, hairy faces, and stout, piercing mouthparts used to ambush prey. These flies are highly efficient hunters, catching other insects mid-air and injecting them with a paralyzing venom. Because they prey on many common garden pests, robber flies are generally considered beneficial insects for natural pest control.
