Discodoris Nudibranch Crawling on Volcanic Sand Substrate in Bali

A high-magnification macro underwater photograph captures a top-down three-quarter perspective of a cryptically patterned dorid nudibranch (Discodoris or Sebadoris species, such as Discodoris boholiensis) crawling over dark volcanic sand and gravel in Bali. The sea slug displays a broad, undulating mantle with a rich chocolate-brown base heavily mottled with snow-white speckles, patches, and fine pustules. A central reddish-brown ridge runs along its dorsum, flanked by two small, dark perfoliate rhinophores extending forward. Towards the posterior, a compact branchial gill plume blends subtly into the mantle pattern. The subject rests centrally on a coarse, multi-colored volcanic seabed consisting of dark basalt granules, iron-red specks, and small coral pebbles. A shallow depth of field keeps the intricate mantle texture and rhinophores in sharp focus while softly blurring the surrounding sediment. Ideal for dorid nudibranch taxonomic guides, camouflage morphology studies, marine biology publications, and professional nature stock media.
