Long-Arm Octopus Peeking From Sand Burrow Displaying Yellow Funnel in Bali

A high-magnification macro underwater photograph captures a straight-on, low-angle perspective of a small long-arm octopus (Abdopus or Macrotritopus species, such as Abdopus aculeatus) emerging from its burrow in dark volcanic sand in Bali. Perched in the center of the frame, the cephalopod extends its mantle and head vertically above the substrate rim, exposing a vibrant, golden-yellow funnel (siphon) tucked beneath its anterior web. The octopus displays a dark chocolate-brown and cream-white mottled skin pattern with fine dermal texturing, white spots, and raised eye stalks featuring narrow horizontal slit pupils. Its arms form a protective ring around the burrow opening, exposing pale blue suction cups against the dark, multi-colored volcanic sand mixed with fine silt and red mineral flecks. A shallow depth of field pins crisp focus directly on the elevated eye stalks, texture-laden head, and yellow siphon, while the surrounding benthic substrate softly falls into shadow. Ideal for cephalopod siphon anatomy, burrowing behavior studies, marine biology textbooks, and professional nature stock media.
