Yellow Painted Frogfish Perched on Hard Coral Head in Bali

A high-magnification macro underwater photograph captures a centered, head-on frontal view of a small yellow painted frogfish (Antennarius pictus, yellow morph) perched among the green-tipped branches of a stony hard coral (Acropora or Montipora species) in Bali. The specialized anglerfish displays a vibrant chartreuse-yellow, textured body marked with dark chocolate-brown patches near its eye spots and lateral flanks. Positioned above its downturned, downturned-frowning mouth is a raised illicium tipped with a white, fluffy esca (lure). Its modified pectoral fins grip the coral head securely, mimicking the surrounding reef texture. A stark black background isolates the brightly colored subject and its branching coral host. A shallow depth of field pins absolute focus onto the frogfish’s facial features, esca, and warty skin texture, while the foreground coral tips and background dissolve cleanly into darkness. Ideal for antennariid camouflage studies, lure morphology guides, coral reef fish ecology publications, and professional nature stock media.
